Optimism about Germany’s economy slipped this month among experts in the financial community.

The closely watched ZEW Indicator of Economic Sentiment fell 2.6 points to 17.8 points from January to February. The index’s long-term average is 23.7.

Manheim-based ZEW (Centre for European Economic Research) notes that the assessment of current economic conditions in Germany slid to 92.3 this month from 95.2 in January. But the institute says financial experts are optimistic about economic growth over the next six months.

Germany’s financial market has a similar view of the eurozone. This month’s confidence index for the region declined by 2.5 points to 29.3 compared with January. But ZEW says respondents are slightly more optimistic about current economic conditions than they were last month.
