Deutsche Post DHL Group’s StreetScooter GmbH subsidiary has opened its second German manufacturing plant for electric delivery vans.
Located in Duren, the €840,000 facility has capacity to build 10,000 electric vans per year. This equals the production limit of StreetScooter’s current plant in Aachen.
The Duren facility will build chassis, flatbed and box truck variants of StreetScooter’s Work and Work L EVs, which were launched last summer for internal Deutsche DHL use. Earlier this year StreetScooter received an order for 200 electric trucks from a British company that delivers bottles of milk to homes.
The company also is targeting municipality fleets, catering services, waste disposal companies and airport shuttles. The vehicles can be adapted to include variable loading volumes, tilted platforms and refrigerated containers.
StreetScooters also makes electric bicycles and three-wheel vehicles. Last year the company announced a partnership with Ford Motor Co., which will supply its Transit van platform to StreetScooters for a medium-duty Work XL electric van.
