Daimler AG has ended a strike at its commercial truck plant in Sao Bernardo, Brazil, by scrapping plans to shed 1,500 jobs there, Bloomberg News reports.
Instead, the company and its union have agreed to a 20% cutback in hours worked. Daimler also pledges not to eliminate any jobs at the facility through July. The factory is operating at about 60% of capacity.
General Motors Co. went through a similar exercise in early August at its truck plant in Sao Jose dos Campos. Layoffs there prompted a strike, which ended when GM agreed instead to put the laid-off workers on paid leave for five months.
