Ola Kaellenius, who has headed sales and marketing for Daimler AG’s Mercedes-Benz Cars unit since 2013, is a favored candidate to succeed Dieter Zetsche as Daimler CEO four years from now, sources tell Manager Magazin.
Kaellenius, 46, was CEO of Mercedes-Benz performance arm AMG for three years before moving into his current job. Manager says Daimler Chairman Manfred Bischoff wants the Swedish executive to eventually replace Zetsche.
Such a move isn’t likely until at least 2019, however, because Bischoff also has backed extending Zetsche’s current contract to that year. Manager’s sources say Bischoff is seeking to gradually install younger executives on the Mercedes executive board.
