Continental AG, whose revenue last year rose 2% to €33.3 billion, predicts demand for its advanced vehicle electronics will boost sales 5% in 2014.
The company reports estimated pretax earnings for 2013 of €3.7 billion compared with from €3.1 billion last year. Growth was achieved in spite of unfavorable exchange rates that cost more than €700 million. Conti will report final numbers in March.
The company was able to offset slumping demand in Europe with increased sales to BMW, Daimler and Volkswagen operations overseas, Bloomberg News notes. The company also expects continued strong demand for its driver assist, navigation and electric/hybrid powertrain systems.
Conti expects worldwide output of cars and light trucks this year will advance by 2 million units to more than 85 million units.
