Nissan Motor Co. has hired Fred Diaz, CEO of Chrysler Group LLC's Ram brand and its Mexico unit, as vice president of sales and marketing for the Nissan brand in North America.
Diaz succeeds Al Castignetti who has resigned after more than four years in the job. Diaz will report to Jose Munoz, senior vice president of sales and marketing for the company's Americas unit.
In his new job, Diaz must tackle Nissan's flagging U.S. sales. The marque's volume slipped 2% to 290,900 vehicles in the first quarter of 2013 as the overall market grew 6%, according to Autodata Corp.
Diaz was tapped to head the Ram brand when it was split off from Dodge's car unit in late 2009. He added Mexico duties in 2011. During his 24 years at Chrysler, Diaz moved up through a series of sales jobs.
