Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV's U.S. unit is preparing to recall 4.5 million cars, trucks and SUV/crossovers made during the 2002-2011 models years and equipped with Takata Corp.-supplied airbag inflators that could explode.
FCA will launch separate campaigns to replace driver and passenger front airbag inflators in a combined 16 models. The company has not yet set a schedule for the massive recall.
The new campaign includes 2.9 million vehicles recalled last December for the same airbag inflator repair. FCA says the Takata devices replaced in that recall must be replaced again.
The new callback for driver-side airbag inflators involves 4.1 million of these models:

- 2006-2009 Dodge Ram 3500 pickups
- 2006-2010 Mitsubishi Raider midsize pickups
- 2007-2008 Chrysler Aspen crossovers
- 2008-2010 Dodge Ram 4500 and 5500 heavy-duty pickups
- 2008-2009 Sterling Bullet 4500 and 5500 chassis cabs
