Chinese, German Interior Specialists to Partner on “Smart” Surfaces

Shanghai-based Yanfeng Automotive Interiors and Germany’s Kostal GmbH have signed a memorandum of understanding to work together on “smart” interior surfaces.

Under the agreement, the companies plan to develop human-to-machine interfaces that are integrated into various material surfaces. No timeline was given for the program.

Kostal supplies mechatronic modules, switches and electronic control units. The family-owned business was founded in 1912.

Yanfeng Interiors produces instrument panels and cockpit systems, door panels, floor consoles and overhead consoles. The joint venture company is co-owned by Johnson Controls Inc., the component group of SAI Motor Corp. and the Yangfeng Automotive Trim Systems unit of Huayu Automotive Systems Co.
