China has 205 million passenger vehicles on the road—and 328 million licensed drivers to operate them, the Ministry of Public Security reports.

When trucks and other motorized vehicles are included, China’s fleet and licensed driver totals swell to 304 million and 371 million, respectively.

The ministry says 49 Chinese cities each have more than 1 million registered cars in operation. There are 23 cities with more than 2 million cars apiece. Six cities—Beijing, Chengdu, Chongqing, Shanghai, Shenzhen and Suzhou—each boast a fleet of more than 3 million cars.
