General Motors Co. debuted the 2017 Chevrolet Bolt electric vehicle in production form earlier today at the International CES consumer electronics show in Las Vegas.
The car, which is due to launch late this year, closely resembles 2012 Bolt concept model unveiled at the Detroit auto show three years ago.
GM says the compact crossover’s spacious 94.4-cu-ft interior and amenities make it well-suited for ride-share applications. Earlier this week, GM announced a $500 investment in Lyft Inc. and a plan to offer short-term rentals to Lyft drivers in several U.S. cities.
The Bolt’s large door openings and flat floor make it easier for rear-seat passengers to enter and exit the vehicle, GM notes. The two front seats also have thinner seat-backs, which improves rear legroom.
Other goodies include smartphone connectivity and USB ports for use by rear-seat passengers. Safety extras include a wide-view backup camera and self-sealing tires.
GM expects the Bolt’s driving range to top the 200-mile bogey it originally targeted, but it isn’t sure by how much. Pricing will start at under $30,000 after a $7,500 federal tax credit.
