Hourly workers at a Lear Corp. seating plant in Ajax, Ontario, have rejected a tentative labor contract by a 94% margin.
Canada’s Unifor union, which represents the 300 affected workers, says it will continue a strike that began on April 28. Contract talks began in mid-March. Details of the dispute aren’t clear but apparently relate to job assignments and compensation.
The Ajax facility supplies seats to Fiat Chrysler Automobile NV’s assembly plant in Brampton, Ontario. The factory makes Chrysler 300, Dodge Challenger coupes and Dodge Charger sedans.
Challenger sales were up 12% in the first quarter of 2018, according to Autodata Corp. But demand for the Charger and 300 fell 5% and 14%, respectively.
