General Motors Co.’s Cadillac unit will discontinue the plug-in hybrid variant of its CT6 luxury sedan in the U.S. when supplies of the 2018 model run out.
GM builds the hybrid CT6 exclusively in China, where the model will continue to be sold. U.S. tariffs on products imported from China likely fueled the vehicle’s demise in the American market.
GM launched production of the CT6 hybrid in 2016. Teaming a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine with two electric motors and an 18.4-kWh lithium-ion battery, the vehicle delivers more than double the fuel economy of the base CT6 and can travel nearly 40 miles in electric-only mode.
