General Motors Co. will introduce the Cadillac ELR EV coupe in January at a base price of $76,000.
The car, which was revealed in concept form at the Detroit auto show in January, is powered by the same battery and on-board recharging system used in the $39,000 Chevrolet Volt.
The ELR will be well equipped with electronic features that include the Cadillac CUE touch-screen navigation system, LED front and rear lighting and warnings for lane departure and impending forward collision.
Cadillac-only features include leather and real-wood interior trim, a paddle-activated temporary power regeneration system and a Sport driving mode that adjusts the suspension, steering ratio and accelerator pedal response.
Like the Volt, the ELR's 16.5-kWh battery can propel the car for about 35 miles. The charger, which is driven by a 1.4-liter 4-cylinder gasoline engine extends the car's range to more than 300 miles between fill-ups. The car's battery will be covered by the same eight-year, 100,000-mile warranty that applies to the Volt.
The ELR will be assembled at GM's factory in Hamtramck, Mich., home of the Volt and its European variant, the Opel Ampera.
