General Motors Co. is introducing a new user interface for infotainment systems in future Cadillac models that it describes as more intuitive, personalized and easier to use, and with increased functionality.

The updated Cadillac User Experience (CUE) system will debut next month with the launch of the 2017 CTS midsize car. The 2018 ATS and XTS sedans will add the feature later this year, and other Cadillac vehicles will follow.

Addressing customer complaints about the complexity of the first-generation interface, Cadillac says the new CUE system is designed to work more like a smartphone. A summary view, for example, allows quick access to audio, climate, navigation and phone controls.

A new cloud-based personalization option called My Driver Preferences allows users to create a profile with customized settings for displays, contact favorites, route preferences and recent destinations. The profile can be set up in the car or through the Cadillac website.

The cloud-based technology enables users to access real-time information about road and traffic conditions, local fuel prices and other third-party data. The system also allows for Apple CarPlay/Android Auto smartphone integration and wireless software updates. Cadillac says the system’s touchscreen and voice recognition technology has been improved too.

The system supports the use of two phones concurrently via Bluetooth. As many as seven devices can connect to the available 4GLTE wi-fi hotspot. The service will be free for the first year of ownership.
