General Motors Co.’s Cadillac unit has released images of an upcoming electric crossover vehicle that will be the first model to ride on the carmaker’s “BEV3” dedicated EV platform.

The unnamed new Caddy EV is expected to bow in 2021 and be sold globally. GM says the vehicle will be aimed at the heart of the global luxury market and will provide the “foundation for an entirely new kind of Cadillac."

Last week, GM named Cadillac as its lead EV brand. The carmaker’s nameplates plan to introduce at least 20 new or redesigned EVs and fuel cell vehicles worldwide by 2023. The BEV platform is designed to support a wide variety of models, including those with front-, rear- and all-wheel-drive powertrains.

Cadillac intends to launch a new or redesigned vehicle about every six months through 2021. The process began last year with the XT4 compact crossover and the larger XT6, which was unveiled yesterday.

The CT5 sedan, which will replace both the ATS and CTS, and the entry-level CT4 car also are due early next decade. A replacement for the aging Escalade fullsize SUV and its ESV performance variant also are said to be in the works.
