Robert Bosch GmbH has signed a contract with China’s Nio Ltd. to supply the electric vehicle startup company with a variety of advanced technology systems.
Bosch says it will supply future Nio models with electric motor controls, sensors and other technologies used in autonomous driving systems, and unspecified “intelligent transport” systems.
Nio launched its first vehicle, the all-electric ES8 SUV/crossover, this summer in China. For that vehicle, Bosch provides driver assistance systems, control units, sensors and its iBooster electromechanical brake booster.
Bosch will open an iBooster manufacturing plant in Nanjing in November and is expanding an electronics facility in Wujin later this year. Also in the works are a new artificial intelligence center and a manufacturing center for 48-volt batteries.
Founded in 2014, Nio operates development, design and manufacturing centers in Shanghai, Beijing, Munich, London and Silicon Valley. Nio also is launching a battery-swapping network in China, with a goal of having 1,100 stations operating by 2020.
