About 15% of the world's new cars will come equipped with a hybrid or all-electric powertrain by 2025, predicts Robert Bosch GmbH Chairman Volkmar Denner.
Denner, who is responsible for R&D at Bosch, tells a conference in Germany that propulsion batteries for cars in 2020 will offer twice the energy density at half the cost of today's devices.
Electrification, he declares, will "take combustion engines to new heights" by enhancing start-up torque, cutting fuel consumption and lowering system emission levels.
Denner also says vehicle connectivity will play a key role in making electromobility more convenient for consumers. He touts a Bosch-developed smartphone app that EV drivers can use to easily recharge their vehicles at 80% of Germany's charging locations.
