BMW AG confirms it is working with a current Formula E electric vehicle racing team. The carmaker is expected to announce a formal partnership soon.

The unnamed team is widely rumored to be Andretti Racing. Under the partnership, BMW's Portuguese factory driver Antonio Félix da Costa will join Andretti’s Formula E team, according to multiple media reports.

The collaboration will help BMW develop and test next-generation electric motors and other power electronic systems for its growing lineup of hybrids and full-EVs marketed under its “i” sub-brand. BMW has partnered with Formula E since the circuit was launched in 2014, with modified version of its i8 and i3 electric cars providing on-track support to the series.

Jaguar Land Rover already has announced it will field a Formula E team when the new season starts in September. Nissan also has hinted at joining the series, which had 10 teams last season.
