Audi AG says it is partnering with two German firms to allow European owners of the carmaker’s upcoming e-tron electric crossover vehicle to integrate the EV into their homes.

The company will work with Hager Group on interfaces with the electric grid and home energy management system. SMA Solar Technology AG will coordinate solar charging through photovoltaic panels when available.

Audi says the new partnerships will help EV owners to better manage battery charging. Customers can program vehicle charging based on real-time electricity costs, upcoming trips, power demand and weather.

Two charging systems are available: the base 11-kW unit or an optional 22-kW fast charger. Users can set and monitor charging through home wifi connections.
