Audi AG says it is adopting a “lasting and sustainable” strategic shift in its product mix that will electrify one in four vehicles it sells in the U.S. by 2026.
Scott Keogh, who heads U.S. operations for the Volkswagen Group brand, says a major move to EVs is “right for the times and right for the market,” Reuters reports. He notes that Audi is forming close alliance with battery makers to accelerate next-generation devices that are cheaper and more powerful.
Keogh adds that Audi will take unspecified steps to develop fast-charge networks for EVs in the U.S. and Europe.
Reuters says Audi has grown more enthusiastic about electric powertrains because VW’s diesel emission scandal has tainted the outlook for diesel-powered vehicles.
