Aston Martin Lagonda Ltd. is talking with several companies in China about potential partnerships to develop and sell electric vehicles in the market, Bloomberg News reports.

The U.K. luxury marque doesn’t plan to produce its own models in China. But it believes it could provide engineering expertise to help a local manufacturer improve aerodynamics and reduce vehicle weight to bolster the performance and range of an EV, CEO Andy Palmer says.

Last summer Aston Martin announced plans to convert its entire lineup to electrified powertrains by 2030. Pure EVs are expected to account for one-fourth of the brand’s sales by that time.

The company’s first EV, the RapidE hypercar, is due next year. China’s Contemporary Amperex Technology is being evaluated as a battery supplier for the vehicle, according to Bloomberg.

Aston Martin originally had planned to partner with Leshi Internet Information & Technology Corp. on the RaipdE. But the Chinese company dropped out of the project last June amid ongoing cash problems. As a result, Aston Martin will build just 155 of the $250,000 vehicles—about one-third the original volume.
