Aston Martin Lagonda Ltd. says its upcoming Rapid E electric supercar will be fitted with two electric motors that produce a combined 610 hp and 700 lb-ft of torque.

The all-new model, which is expected to bow late next year, will have a top speed of 155 mph and a driving range of more than 100 miles. Zero-to-60 mph acceleration is listed at less than four seconds, which the company says can be achieved on a partially charged battery.

The car’s 800-volt, 65-kWh lithium-ion battery can be replenished in less than an hour using a rapid charger (at least 100 kW), according to Aston Martin. The 5,600-cell battery is packaged in the space occupied by the traditionally powered Rapid S sedan’s V-12 engine, transmission and fuel tank.

Developed in conjunction with Williams Advanced Engineering, the new EV is made from composite materials and other lightweight alloys. To help maintain the sporty driving characteristics of other Aston Martin models, the Rapid E uses a limited-slip differential to transfer power to the wheels.

The car’s suspension and other settings also have been tuned to deliver a sports car feel. In addition, Aston Martin says the car’s exterior and underbody are designed to optimize air flow. Pirelli P-Zero low-rolling- resistance tires contain a noise-canceling foam inside.

Aston Martin will build the Rapid E at its new St. Athan, England, plant. Production will be limited to 155 units, with the vehicles expected to have a base price of about $250,000.
