Indian truckmaker Ashok Leyland Ltd. plans to debut its first batch of all-electric vehicles in January.
The vehicles will be produced in Chennai and deployed in Gujarat, according to the company. Ashok plans to introduce at least four EVs next year: a bus, light- and medium-duty trucks and a “last-mile connectivity” vehicle. The company notes that it has been testing its e-bus for several months.
Ashok sees great potential in India for electric micro e-buses to provide last-mile connectivity for travelers. The company adds that it may set up a new subsidiary to use such vehicles in a car-share service.
