U.S. consumers are the most upbeat about economic conditions than they have been since last April, University of Michigan says.
The university's consumer confidence index rose to 76.4 this month from 76.2 in March. The Michigan researchers say declining gasoline prices and hopes of an improving job market are contributing to the optimism.
The gauge of future expectations increased. But the measure of current conditions fell.
The university's findings run counter to those reported last week by the Conference Board, which says confidence dipped slightly in April.
