ZF Friedrichshafen AG plans to open a 171,000-sq-ft global electronics headquarters for its ZF TRW unit in Farmington Hills, Mich., by June, Crain’s Detroit Business reports.
The facility will house more than 600 employees. ZF TRW will retain its current North American headquarters in nearby Livonia. Earlier this month ZF said it also is relocating its North American headquarters to the Livonia complex from its current location in Plymouth, Mich.
The company says the new facility will include component and vehicle test labs as well as offices for engineers, technicians and support staff. The group will support ZF TRW’s array of driver assist, occupant safety and other electronics products and help develop systems that enable semi- and fully autonomous vehicles.

Mustang Changes for 2018
On Tuesday Ford unveiled—using the social media channels of actor Dwayne Johnson (this has got to unnerve some of the auto buff book editors)—the 2018 Mustang, which has undergone some modifications: under the hood (the 3.7-liter V6 is giving way to a 2.3-liter EcoBoost four, and a 10-speed automatic is available), on the dash (a 12-inch, all-digital LCD screen is available for the dashboard), at the tires (12 wheel choices), on the chassis (MagneRide damper technology is being offered with the Mustang Performance Package), and on the exterior (three new paint colors). And while on the subject of the exterior, there are some notable changes—a lower, remodeled hood, repositioned hood vents, new upper and lower front grilles, LED front lights, revised LED taillamps, new rear bumper and fascia.

2018 Genesis G80 AWD 3.3T Sport
The thing about the 2018 Genesis G80 AWD 3.3T Sport: The head of a valet service at a restaurant on New Year’s Eve said to me as his associate handed me back the key fob (a hefty object, speaking to the fact that this is a substantial vehicle), “We don’t see many of these.” A couple days later, a locksmith in downtown Plymouth, who was making some keys for autofieldblog HQ (yes, there are still independent locksmiths that make keys for doors) looked out his window and said to me, “What’s that?” Neither of these probably make the people at Genesis all that happy, but in both cases the tone of voice indicated admiration, if not full-on interest.
