Volkswagen AG says it will launch a production version of its new all-electric "I.D." concept vehicle in 2020.
The carmaker took the wraps off the concept on Wednesday ahead of the vehicle’s official unveiling later this week at the Paris auto show. The compact car, which is about the size of the Golf hatchback, will be the first of 30 new electric and plug-in hybrid models VW Group is planning to launch by 2025.
The I.D. will be built on VW’s modular MEB platform, which was previewed with the Budd-e concept earlier this year. Power comes from a single electric motor that generates 167 hp. The company says the car’s lithium-ion battery pack provides a driving range of 250-370 miles.
The I.D. concept also features VW’s latest autonomous driving technologies, including a retractable steering wheel. The carmaker aims to launch a fully autonomous vehicle by 2025.
