Volkswagen AG has publicly introduced its first electric vehicle, a modified version of its tiny Up! city car. The four-seater will go on sale in Germany this autumn.
The e-Up is propelled by an 81-hp electric motor that makes 155 lb-ft of torque. The 2,600-lb car can accelerate from zero to 62 mph in 14 seconds, reach a top speed of 84 mph and travel about 93 miles per charge, according to the company.
VW says the car's 18.7 kWh lithium-ion battery can be 80% charged in 30 minutes.
The e-Up is distinguished from its piston-powered sibling by special 15-inch alloy wheels, e-Up badging, VW emblems with blue background and light gray seats with blue accent stitching.
