Volkswagen AG has directed its dealers in India "not to physically deliver any Polo vehicle" until further notice, the Economic Times reports.
The stop-sale order is not related to VW's diesel emission scandal, which the Indian government is investigating separately. But the company is offering no explanation for the action. ET's sources say the issue may relate to the handbrake.
ET says the locally produced Polo is VW's best-selling model in India, accounting for about two-thirds of the 45,000 cars VW sold there in the fiscal year ended March 30.
