Volkswagen Group has abandoned a threat to sue South Korea for banning the sale of most of its vehicles and fining the company 17.8 billion won ($16 million) for cheating on emission and noise tests.
The company tells Reuters it has opted to avoid a lengthy legal battle in favor of re-certifying the targeted vehicles so it can quickly resume sales. The company markets Audi, Bentley and VW brand cars—all of them imported—in Korea.
VW sales in the country surged 17% in 2016. But Reuters notes they have slumped 40% this year because of the test-cheating scandal.
