Volkswagen AG CEO Matthias Mueller declares the company didn’t fix prices or participate in an alleged cartel of German carmakers to do so.
His comment follows raids of BMW, Daimler and VW offices by European Commission investigators. The EC launched a probe in July based on a tip claiming that the companies conspired to fix prices and manage the use of emission control technologies. Der Spiegel first reported claims about a cartel.
All three carmakers have denied any role in price fixing. They do acknowledge their participation in industrywide discussions about standards that are organized by the industry’s VDA trade group.
