Volkswagen AG says its new flagship Arteon sedan, originally expected to debut in the U.S. now, won’t arrive until early 2019.
The car went on sale in Germany last year and is slated to replace the coupelike CC sedan in the U.S. The car rides on VW’s MQB global platform and is larger than the CC.
VW tells Automotive News that the Arteon’s delay is due to its struggles to certify the emissions of all its models under Europe’s new WLTP (world harmonized light vehicle test procedure). The new protocol, which took effect on Sept. 1, takes two or three times as long as the New European Driving Cycle test it replaces.
