Volkswagen AG and British retailer Tesco plc plan to add more than 2,400 electric-car charging points in the U.K. over the next three years.

The facilities will be installed at 600 Tesco stores by Lond-based Pod Point. The 9-year-old company says it has built and sold more than 40,000 charging points in the U.K.

The installations will offer free charging at 7 kW or for-fee quick charging at 50 kW.

Electrified vehicles through the first 10 months of 2018 captured 6% of the new-car market in the U.K., up from less than 2% in the same period last year, according to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders.
