Volkswagen AG says it has received regulatory approvals in India to combine its local Skoda, Volkswagen and sales units.

The merger, which was announced in April, creates a Pune-based company named Skoda Auto Volkswagen India. CEO Bernhard Maier says the business will take over several regional offices and VW factories in Aurangabad and Pune.

Skoda Auto Volkswagen also will handle Audi, Lamborghini and Porsche sales in India. Each brand will continue to operate its own dealer network.

The unified company plans to introduce a range of India-specific models, beginning next year. The first of the vehicles will be the Skoda Karoq, a small crossover that uses VW’s ultra-low-cost MQB “AO” small-car chassis.
