Volvo Cars Corp. expects half its global sales will come from fully electric vehicles by 2025.
Last year the carmaker announced that all future models starting in 2019 will have an electrified powertrain. This includes full EVs, plug-in hybrids and 48-volt mild hybrids.
China is expected to play a big role in Volvo’s electrification plans. All vehicles the carmaker is displaying at this week’s Beijing auto show are EVs or plug-in hybrids, including the T5 plug-in hybrid version (pictured) of Volvo’s redesigned XC40 crossover vehicle.
Last year Volvo sold more than 100,000 vehicles in China, making it the company’s largest market. Sales were up 14% year-over-year through the first quarter.
