America's consumer price index was unchanged from March to April, reined in by a drop in energy prices, the Dept. of Labor says.
The core index, which excludes volatile food and energy prices, rose 0.2% last month, matching its March increase. The main index climbed a moderate 2.3% from April 2011, and the core index also advanced 2.3% year over year.
Economists say the April report supports the Federal Reserve's contention that the jump in inflation caused by rising energy prices earlier this year would be temporarily.
