U.S. Gasoline Price Average Fell 94 Cents in 2015

The average retail price for a gallon of gasoline in the U.S. slid to $2.40 per gallon in 2015, according to AAA. That compares with averages of $3.34 in 2014, $3.49 in 2013 and a record $3.60 in 2012.
The current national average is $1.99 per gallon, the lowest since March 2009. State-level averages range from $1.72 (Missouri) to $2.85 (California).
AAA predicts this year’s average price will be between $2.25 and $2.45 per gallon. The group says prices could drop as much as 10 cents per gallon in January but then rise 50 cents by late winter as refineries conduct seasonal maintenance. AAA says the national average price isn’t likely to climb above $3 per gallon this year.
