The American economy expanded by an annualized 2.8% in July-September, up 0.3 points from the previous quarter, the U.S. Dept. of Commerce's advance estimate.

The BEA's price index increased 1.8% compared with 0.2% in the second quarter. When volatile food and energy prices are ignored, the index rose 1.5% in the third quarter compared with 0.8% in the previous three-month period.
