One-third of American profess an interest in buying a hybrid, and about one in four claim higher interest in hybrids than a year ago, The Harris Poll reports.
The survey of 2,600 vehicle owners in the U.S. finds interest in hybrids strongest among consumer under 35 years old (32%) and weakest among those over 67 years old (15%).
Harris says hybrid powertrains are the most popular alternative among consumers who cite an interest in options to the traditional piston engine. Only 11% say they would consider a diesel, and 9% would consider an electric vehicle. Nearly two-thirds of those surveyed say they aren't likely to consider either of those options.
