The U.S. auto industry current employs some 913,200 workers, the most since March 2008, according to the U.S. Dept. of Labor.

The department says the country added 257,000 jobs overall, including 6,700 in the auto industry, last month.

Still, an increase in the number of people looking for work caused America's unemployment rate to increase 0.1 point to 5.7% from December to January.
