The Trump administration confirms it will impose 25% import tariffs on another $16 billion worth of Chinese goods, beginning Aug. 23.
The $16 billion, which was expected, is in addition to the 25% tariff covering $34 billion in Chinese imports that began on July 6. The new batch of goods focuses on industrial products such as iron girders and steam turbines.
The White House also is preparing a plan to add tariffs for another $200 billion in Chinese imports later this year.
President Donald Trump says he will impose taxes on all Chinese goods if necessary to coax China to negotiate changes to it trade practices. Trump wants China to lower its own tariffs and abolish business policies that force foreign companies to reveal trade secrets in return for access to Chinese markets.RELATED CONTENT
