Canada’s Unifor union says its next target for a new four-year labor contract is Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV.
Negotiations will begin next week, assuming a ratification on Sunday of a tentative pact worked out on Tuesday between Unifor and General Motors Co. The union will apply the GM deal as a pattern for a settlement with FCA.
Unifor represents about 9,800 workers at three FCA factories in Ontario. Two of the facilities are final assembly plants: Brampton (Chrysler 300 sedan, Dodge Challenger coupe and Dodge Charger sedan) and Windsor (Chrysler Pacifica and Dodge Caravan minivans). FCA also operates an aluminum casting plant in the Etobicoke district of Toronto.
At GM, Unifor won a pledge by the company to extend the life of its Oshawa plant with new investment and products. The union aims for a similar deal for FCA’s aging Brampton facility.
