Salaried members of the U.K's Unite labor union plan a 24-hour walkout at seven Ford Motor Co. facilities on Monday to protest the company's decision to pay lower wages to new hires there and close its pension plan to new entrants. The action follows months of unsuccessful negotiations.
Unite officials tell the news service that employees oppose the creation of a two-tier workforce and fear Ford might extend the actions to its hourly workers in the U.K. The company says the dispute involves only a small number of its employees.
