The United Auto Workers union tells the U.S. Dept. of Labor its membership grew by nearly 5,200 workers to a total of 408,600 members in 2015.
The UAW’s ranks peaked at almost 1.5 million members in 1979 but sagged to 355,200 in 2009. Membership has been growing slowly but steadily since then.
