The United Auto Workers union had an average of 380,700 members in 2011 compared with 376,600 the previous year, according to the union's annual filing with the U.S. Dept. of Labor.
Last year marked the second consecutive year-over-year increase in union membership from a post-World War II low of 355,200 members in 2009.
The union's annual report also disclosed that President Bob King's salary rose 9% to $159,300 last year. The UAW wrote down the value of its Black Lake, Mich., education center and golf course by $1.7 million to $5.8 million. The union's assets slid by $40 million to $1.1 billion. The UAW spent $8 million on lobbying and political activities.
The union hopes to boost membership this year by organizing at least one of the U.S. factories run by foreign carmakers.
