The United Auto Workers union and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV have returned to the bargaining table after the union's FCA members rejected a proposed labor pact by a 2:1 margin.
Reopening talks, which so far have no deadline, avoids a strike. It also delays efforts by UAW President Dennis Williams to apply a deal at FCA as a pattern for similar contracts at Ford and General Motors.
FCA workers complain the initial tentative agreement failed to erase a widely disliked two-tier wage structure and was too vague about the company's commitment to protecting jobs in the U.S.
