As expected, delegates to the United Auto Workers union bargaining convention in Detroit want an end to the two-level wage system they agreed to in 2007.
The delegates argue workers should be paid the same to do the same work. Under the two-tier system, the pay gap can be as great as $13 per hour. The UAW agreed to the scheme eight years ago to help the domestic auto industry to survive as profits evaporated.
The two-day convention will end today. The UAW's current labor contracts with General Motors, Ford and Fiat Chrysler expire in September.
