Toyota Motor Corp.’s Prius and RAV4 (pictured) hybrid-electric vehicles have been named the Canadian Green Car and Green Utility of the Year, respectively, by the Automobile Journalists Assn. of Canada (AJAC).
The Prius edged out hybrid variants of the Kia Optima and Chevrolet Malibu for top honors in the car category. On the utility side, the other two finalists were the Mazda CX-9 and Subaru Forester crossover/SUVs.
The winners were announced in conjunction with this week’s Vancouver auto show. Eligible vehicles are road tested and evaluated by more than 60 journalists based on subjective and objective criteria, including “green” characteristics such as range and battery charging times.
