Toyota Motor Corp. has opened a new research and development office in Mountain View, Calif., that will focus on in-vehicle infotainment systems.

The company also plans to hire about 150 employees this year at its technical centers in Ann Arbor and Saline, Mich. Toyota says it will add an additional 100 jobs over the next five years to work on engines and transmissions for the North American market.

The expansion is part of the company's plan to localize R&D activities in North America.
