George Blankenship, who joined Tesla Motors Inc. from Apple Inc. three years ago to head the electric carmaker's sales and distribution, apparently has left the company.
The reason for his departure isn't clear, and Tesla hasn't commented. The company continues to list Blankenship as its vice president of sales and ownership experience. But the San Jose Mercury News reports that his LinkedIn status indicates he left the company earlier this month to become "director of smiles" for his family.
Blankenship was chief strategist for Apple's highly successful company stores. He led the development of Tesla's similar approach of selling cars through company-controlled showrooms rather than conventional dealerships.
