Demand for Tesla Inc.’s new Model 3 electric sedan topped sales of all other premium midsize cars in Europe in February, its first full month on the market.

Data from U.K market analysts JATO Dynamics Ltd. suggests that Model 3 sales for the month topped 3,600 units, compared with 3,400 for the conventionally powered Mercedes-Benz C-Class sedan and 1,700 units each for the Audi A4 and BMW 3 Series sedans, according to Automotive News Europe.

The newspaper notes that overall deliveries of those competing models, which include popular wagon variants, exceeded the Model 3 total. But ANE adds points out that JATO’s statistics show the €53,800 ($60,400) Model 3 also outsold Europe’s other best-selling EVs, including the far less expensive Renault Zoe (2,900 units) and Nissan Leaf (2,300 units).

Last year, Tesla’s larger and significantly more expensive Model S electric was Europe’s best-selling upper-premium sedan. JATO says the Model S found 16,500 buyers in 2018, compared with 12,100 for the Mercedes S-Class, 9,600 for the BMW 7 Series and 9,500 for the Porsche Panamera.
